Thymus gland is the principal organ of the lymphatic system located in the upper chest. The main function of the thymus gland is to promote the development of specific immune cells called T-lymphocytes that protect against infection from foreign organisms (viruses, bacteria). T-lymphocytes also protect the body by controlling cancer cells.
‘Naive’ Lymphocytes are generated from stem cells in the spinal cord. They arrive in the thymus gland through the lymphatic system. In thymus these lymphocytes are activated by the hormone Thymosin-T becoming active lymphocytes.
Thymus gland is very active after birth until puberty. After puberty it begins to decrease in activity by about 3% per year. As we age, although bone marrow ‘naive’ lymphocytes continue to be produced, by the reduction in the thymus gland less and less, new active T- Lymphocytes are produced leading to the weakening of the immune system.
Recent studies also indicate other functions of the hormone thymosin, namely the stimulation of cell regeneration in arterial walls affected by arteriosclerosis. Also, thymosin stimulates cardiac cell migration, survival and repair. This effect is particularly important not only in prevention but also in repairing damage to the heart in cases of pre-infarction or a heart attack.
The water extract form thymus gland provides the necessary levels of thymosin for input cell maturation with a direct effect of strengthening the immune system and protecting the heart cells.
Besides the thymus gland extract, Konig Nutrition Laboratorium’s Thymus+ contains Hydrastis canadensis (Goldenseal) and vitamin D3 necessary for additional stimulation of the immune system.
