I do not think that there is one person that is not familiar with stomach pain . It may be due to acidity, manifested as pain in the stomach and/or acid reflux. Of course we add to this other chronic or acute causes (gastritis, ulcer etc.).

Stomach discomfort is usually produced by mismatch of gastric acid secretion and stomach’s ability to protect against irritation caused by the presence of acid or harmful bacteria. The defense of the walls of the stomach, to the acid secretions, is produced by a substance called Mucin created by the millions of cells in the mucosal lining of the stomach’s walls.

The synthetic medicines generally tend to reduce the acidity by neutralizing the acid or inhibiting the acid pump, but the acid is essential for digestion. In cases of pain caused by hyperacidity medications are administered based on antacids, but once again they interfere with normal digestion. What is DGL – Licorice Root Extract?

The DGL product is glycyrrhizinated licorice, that is, licorice (sweet wood) from which the harmful substance glycyrrhizin has been eliminated, thus providing a natural, safe and effective way to solve the problems that affect the stomach.

In a double-blind study with placebo concluded on16 people with severe stomach disorders showed an average improvement of 78% following administration of 360 mg of DGL 3 times a day (at the 3 main meals). Another study concluded that DGL administered in doses of 760 mg 3 times daily is as effective as a prescription medicine (Tagamet Cimetidine) but without side effects.

How does the licorice function?

One of the impediments to the use of licorice is a substance contained in it, named glycyrrhetinic acid which can lead to raising the arterial pressure and water retention. But if the Glycyrrhetinic acid is removed, these side effects are eliminated.
