Curcumin is an extract of Curcuma longa containing curcuminoids, (including curcumin, demethoxy – curcumin and bisdemetoxi-curcumin), which are very powerful antioxidants.
Actions:
Experiments on laboratory mice, carried out by Dr. Natarajan and Dr. John Bright at the University of Los Angeles, have found that the curcumin slows or stops the evolution of dementia (Alzheimer disease) and multiple sclerosis.
Symptoms of dementia: include severe memory impairment or total loss and the birth of a vegetative state.
The symptoms of multiple sclerosis are: muscle weakness, stiffness, problems with balance and coordination, numbness and visual disturbances.
Curcumin inhibits angiogenesis, growth, proliferation and migration of tumor cells and the activity of the pro-inflammatory COX-2 (which prevents the maturation of T cells and promotes tumor growth). Induces apoptosis (programmed death of cancer cells).
Curcumin blocks the kinase responsible for the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells. In 1993, the Taiwanese researchers have found that curcumin also blocks PKC kinases. The blocking of kinases is only one of the anticancer properties of Curcumin.
A problem that arises for an effective treatment with curcumin is its poor absorption into the bloodstream. In fact, research conducted in Vancouver (Canada) and other research centers in the world, led to the conclusion that only an infinitesimal portion of curcumin effectively reaches the blood, the rest is eliminated in the faeces.
For this is also recommended taking Curcumin with a bio-absorption enhancer such as Bromelain.
