DESCRIPTION

Ashwagandha, also named Indian Ginseng, contains medicinal compounds like lactone, alkaloids, colia, fatty acids, amino-acids. The most imporant part of the  plant comes from the root. It has been used for its therapeutic effects, both in India and Europe for centuries.

A number of 216 studies have been carried out so far on the medicinal benefits of Ashwagandha root extract.

Here are the conclusions following these studies:

  • Aids stress (helps calm nerves), releases anxiety;
  • Helps post-trauma recovery (physical or psychiatric);
  • Improves learning, memory and reaction-time;
  • Lessens anxiety or depression with no sleepiness side effects;
  • Reduces degenerative progression of brain damage;
  • Promotes immune protection.

The Indian Ayurvedic system of medicine recommends Ashwagandha as an adaptogenic to help the body cope with daily stress, and as a general tonic-rejuvenator for people recovering from an illness, or for the elderly (mental agility and cognitive ability).

Traditional Ayurvedic practitioners also recommend Ashwagandha for upgrading brain functioning (better mental focus), as well as for decreasing pain and inflammation, and improving ageing. It is also used for low libido and better sexual function.

Ashwagandha is also used as an adaptogen that helps the body adapt to daily stress and as a general tonic.

Ahswagandha is recommended to ease the recovery of an illness, or following surgery.

Addition of magnesium (calming mineral) synergistically enhances the effects of Ashwagandha.
