Researchers at the University of California analyzed PQQ influence on cell signaling pathways involved in the generation of new mitochondria and found that PQQ activates three signal molecules leading to spontaneous biogenesis of new mitochondria in cells:
- PQQ PCG-1α activates the expression of a master regulator that mobilizes cellular response to various external triggers. Directly stimulates genes that promote cell proliferation, cell growth and respiration. Positive effects are recorded in cell functioning in all organs.
- PQQ triggers signal protein CREB that stimulates the creation of new mitochondria.
- PQQ regulates a recently discovered signal protein called DJ-1 involved in cell function and survival. DJ-1 has been shown to prevent cell death caused by intense oxidative stress induced by internal or external factors.
- Furthermore, the American researchers study demonstrated that PQQ not only protects mitochondria against oxidative stress but rather promotes the spontaneous generation of new mitochondria in older cells, a process known as spontaneous mitochondrial biogenesis. This is an important anti-aging effect contributing to longevity.
Researchers at the University of California San Francisco investigated the effect of PQQ compared Metropolol in cases of myocardial infarction resulting in heart muscle dysfunction. It was found that PQQ is superior to Metropolol in terms cardiac muscle mitochondria protection against damage caused by oxidative ischemia / reperfusion. PQQ should be administered either before myocardial infarction or within the first hours.
