Shingles (medical name: herpes zoster) is a seriously painful skin rash caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus.
Symptoms
- Burning, tingling, or itching on one side of the body (often the first sign)
- Followed by a painful rash that develops into blisters
- Usually appears on the torso, but can affect the face, eyes, or other areas
Other symptoms may include:
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Light sensitivity
