What is fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a condition characterized by chronic widespread deep pain and hypersensitivity of the muscles and soft tissues (tendons and ligaments). It may also be accompanied by sleep disturbances, profound fatigue, depression, anxiety, loss of memory and concentration. The permanent deep pain affects the daily activity of the patient.
The pain caused by fibromyalgia is often misdiagnosed or confused with disorders of rheumatic origin and therefore unsuitable treatments are recommended without results.
It is not known the exact cause of this chronic disease that affects more women than men.
So often in the medical world, Fibromyalgia is not even considered a disease even if the patient is severely afflicted and debilitated by it. In fact, Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that causes localized pain and weakness throughout the body: muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, etc.
Unlike arthritis, Fibromyalgia is not caused by inflammation and the joints themselves are not directly affected (the fact that the pain is located in tendons makes the sufferer not to think of articular pains but a form of rheumatism).
Patients suffering from this disease describe the pain as accompanied by itching and burning and the onset of pain itself cannot be predicted.
The severity of pain is different from day to day and in different parts of the body. In some patients, the pain can be so strong as to cause physical disabilities, while others may appear like weak, diffused pain that give the feeling of comorbidity / discomfort.
